I was elated to find that my drawing had gone for the bin this morning, it was a great start to the year, on what is the last day of my holiday before I return to the shite in the morning. I'm painting live for the next couple of hours and you can see me move paint around on my new piece- 'The Diviners' below:

With the holidays fading like memories,I was going to draw a line under 2004 with a typically generalised post mortem, but my thoughts are so pinned to the future right now, that its difficult to compose anything other than to say that last year was the beginning of the rest of our lives.
In less than five months Lani and I will be Stateside, and that thought more than any other consumes almost everything right now. So, its back to work for the boy called David-and if there is a concession to making a resolution, it's that in the coming months there shall be more work from me than ever before. And I'll be having the spring clean of my life, so expect the oppurtunity to purchase a host of things, that have sat unrevealed in dust covered portfolios for aeons. At the lovely and talented jasminetoad's suggestion, I'll be making canvas prints available soon too, as well as selling the remainder of mermaid paintings I have packed away.
And to start as I mean to go on,each new painted peice will be pre-empted by an ink drawing which I will also be selling.I've always loved the ink work of artists like Goya, Rackham, Hogarth, Bolton and more recently O'neil, and because my new series 'Victorian Gothic' lends itself perfectly to the medium, I thought I'd develop a sister series. As an artist, I've really missed drawing, and I can't stress enough how important that side of the process is. My most recent piece-'Muse' was purchased by a private buyer, but the character of 'Springheel Jack' has really touched something of a chord in me, and so I wanted to revisit the idea, by further incorporating some more biographical elements to it. 'The Divine' is a culmination of the years end, and our focus on the future, and I'll make the piece available to bid on some time today.

A very Happy and successful New Year to you all.

When I was a kid, my Dad would tell me a chilling story about a character called Spring Heeled Jack, who was pruported to have leapt across Victorian rooftops, stealing children from their bedrooms after he had no doubt done unspeakable things to their Mothers. I couldn't tell you if it was an urban myth or not, indeed Jack was no figment of my Dads attempts at keeping me bedbound, but suffice to say, it scared me witless. My latest piece 'Muse' revisits that story, utilising my memory of how I imagined him, and imprinting him as a reflection of myself as an adult, looking back. I'll post the auction tomorrow-its supremely late and I am exhausted, but a little reticent to go to bed.

For whatever reason, this previous entry I posted last evening, failed to show up on some of my freinds journals, so here it is again. I hope you like it.
New Victorian Gothic Christmas Painting

Almost exactly a year ago, I began the Urban Faeries series. At the time, I was in a hole commercially, and it was an artistic decision I didn't take lightly. In fact I was kicking and screaming all the way and Dystopia was my reaction. So it's precipitous now that I've decided to begin a new series called 'Fallen Angels'. More character based than my other work, these will be the dark visages of forgotten souls, lost between realms of time, and the first in the series is a piece called 'Purity' loosely informed by the Victorian Christmas story-'the little match girl'
You can bid on this piece starting from $20 or a bin of $350 at the following link:

2005 Calender
I am also entirely happy to announce that my David Gough art 2005 calenders are also available from just $15:

I wanted to draw your attention to an extraordinary paper, written by my dear lj friend and fellow artist Autumn Frederickson llyriel, who used my work as a study for her forthcoming Art assignment.
I felt a little low in spirits on the rain swept morning I recieved it, and having had little time to digest it fully, I printed it out to read on the train. I admit that I stood shoulder to shoulder amongst the suited throng, with tears welling in my eyes once I had, she's an exceptionally erudite clever writer, who gets to the very kernal of my art, and so I thought I'd share it with you all through the link below.
http://www.davidgoughart.com/thesis.htm
She also conducted an interview with me, which is a little wordy on my part, but I have to admit to having felt challenged by her probing:)

I was so overwhelmed with the response to 'Vestige' this morning, I think I imagined that the more didactic and grim my work, the less appealing it would be, but I am delighted that the friends on my list, are more intelligent and supportive than your average bargain bin bidder. Thank you as always.
I think having the lovely Nedda shyfayrie on there helped too.
You can bid on Vestige from 9:30PST this evening, or BIN for $300:

I couldn't possibly speculate how it will fare on eBay, it seems to be a lottery of sometimes surprising and frequently frustrating proportions, and the relative inactivity of the last hours of 'Skyflower' (it ended on an additional $2-sorry Jodi) only reafirms my belief, that I have absolutely no idea what sells. At any rate the prints may fare better, and you can purchase an 8"x 10" signed print for just $7 from the link below:
Skyflower
Finally, but least, my unreserved Best Birthday wishes to our sweet freind, and Kayti.Have a wonderful celebration fragirl...xxxx

I've been haunted these past weeks by what I fear might be some inevitable endpoint to the current world situation-images from CNN, the BBC world service, Blackwatch, Falujah, Iraq, news of nuclear developments in Iran. I fear very much for my children and our worlds future-the desire it seems from our leaders to hate and anihalate has never felt more prevalant, and this piece-however haphazard the message-was borne from those fears. As a sidenote, I must thank the beautiful and talented fairy artist Nedda Shishegar, shyfayrie for allowing me to use her as the model for this piece, she has been a real freind and supporter to myself and my art for a long time, so I didn't go lightly in my decision to use her in this piece, since it is such an inherently dark vision, but at the very least, she is the purveyor of life and light. Thank you Nedda...x
The piece is called 'Vestiges' and I'll post a link to my auction soon.

Meanwhile, my counterpoint to this piece 'Skyflower' ends at 9:30 this evening, and speaking personally, you couldn't ask for a more beautiful fairy to own:

Speaking of my office goddess and muse, Lani has been busy today uploading more prints to my eBay store, and you can purchase the new items as well as the others for just $7:

Well, I've been working solidly all day, and I am completely exhausted, so I'm going to remind myself how lucky I am and cuddle up to Lani on the sofa.
Good night my dear freinds...x

There's a wonderfull Sci-fi movie Marathon on channel five today-a real goodie bag of celluloid confection, which includes Alien Nation, Star Trek, Predator and Alien 3, and which began with the 1953 classic-'War of the Worlds'. What a wonderful snapshot of a charming post war naivety that movie is.Of course, its an aberration of Well's book, but with its Ho-downs, the serving of doughnuts and coffee whilst the Earth totters on the brink of apocalyptic invasion, the kind of dialogue adopted for the title of this post, and scientific exposition for the audiences benefit everytime a new gadget is unveiled, its a kitsch classic that draws unerringly close to the present political climate. Scarier than anything Halloween has to offer in fact.
Speaking of Halloween, my present auction ends in a little under three hours at 13:52 PDT:

Each year in Ireland, on All Hallows Eve,a tale that has been whispered through generations, is told of a man named Jack. Banished from both heaven and hell, his plight is to wander as an immortal for all eternity. Here, Jack stoops on a graveyard tomb, beneath a withering oak, shedding bitter tears like fallen leaves, for the parody his existence has become, and for loves lost through the centuries.

I've called it 'The Gods forgot they made me' and it was a nice oppurtunity to paint on a circular canvas, though scanning and piecing it was possibly the biggest head trip I've had since trigonomotry. Lani says Jack looks a little like me-I guess the weathered look is me, though thankfully my hair hasn't turned white just yet.

I've only ever seen snippets of this, so its a treat to realise that I may one day get to own this in its entirety, but anybody who has seen "Un Chein Andalou" or "L' Age d' or" should know that they are in for a technicolour treat. Kiddies expecting Mickey Mouse however, will be in therapy for years:)

I was never very good at juggling, hence why I never ran off to join the circus, despite my love of girls on trapezes.
Taking a moment in all the chaos, I thought some of you might be interested to see the commision I was working on-a larger version of ‘Faeries do it better’. The nice thing about it was that not only was I able to improve, what I saw as shortcomings in the original, but add some nice embellishments like proper urbane spray can style graffiti and a greater sense of detail and colour. It was a really nice exercise, and I’d love to approach some of my other pieces in the same way.

I wanted to let you all know that my tiles are now available from the following link courtesy of Pagan Wholesale:
David Gough art ceramic tiles

The ceramic tiles are approx. 4"x4" (they're actually 4.25"x4.25"). They're meant for decoration more than for actual use-you can't burn incense or candles on them or you'll damage the image. There are also accessories that go with the tiles- solid wood boxes (in maple, mahogany, cherry or several neon colors) that have indentations in them so that they hold a single tile, and they have wood frames for them (also in maple, mahogany and cherry), as well as tiny easels that can be attached to the back of tiles so that the tiles stand up by themselves. Any queries about the products should be posted to kevin@quicksilverdragon.com
I have it on good authority that t-shirts, tote bags and greetings cards will also be made available later today, so keep checking the link above. With Christmas just around the corner, I couldn't think of a better gift you could give someone:)

In between commisions, missions and permissions, I've gotten my shlepp together and added more prints to my store.
The 8" x 10"'s are just $7:00, I'm really counting on the holiday rush as its looking more and more likely that-all being well at the Embassy-we'll be Californiaa bound by January.
Believe me when I say that every penny is going to count towards our new life together. I'll be adding more as and when the time permits, just click the image below to see the range of prints available.

Speaking of expanding my range, the plans with my US contact are well afoot, and I can officially tell you that the merchandise currently slated for wholesale will include:
T-shirts, Sweatshirts (both 100% cotton and Soft'Link) Mugs Greeting Cards and Stationery Bookmarks
There's talk of others in the pipeline, but I'll post additional items as and when I hear about them.
Gently down the stream does it:)

I have some certain good news however, and its that 'The Dance' was sold to the lovely 67_chevelle a few days ago, which is wonderfull news-the highest price one of my pieces has ever gone for. Its going to help so much, so my unreserved thanks Colleen.
